By train is the most convenient option. Chemnitz is about 75 minutes from Leipzig and 90 minutes from Dresden on regional services; there are no ICE high-speed trains, but Intercity connections link it to Frankfurt and other cities with a change. The Hauptbahnhof sits just south of the city centre. By road, Chemnitz is on the A4 (the main east-west autobahn between Frankfurt, Leipzig, and Dresden) and the A72 south towards the Erzgebirge. By air, Leipzig/Halle Airport is the closest major airport, about an hour away by car or with a train connection. Dresden Airport is a similar distance in the other direction.
