Andros has good tavernas in Chora and Batsi, and the food is straightforward Greek — grilled fish, mezedes, local cheeses. The island's speciality is a soft cheese called vithalí, made from goat's and sheep's milk; look for it in the village shops. The tavernas along the Chora waterfront tend to be pricier but have sea views; the inland squares offer better value. Reservations are useful in July and August.
