A neoclassical palace built in 1890 for Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sisi) on a hill overlooking the sea south of Corfu Town. The empress chose Achilles as the palace's central theme; the gardens contain two large statues of him, one wounded and one triumphant. After Sisi's assassination in 1898 the palace passed to Kaiser Wilhelm II, who used it as a summer residence. It is now a museum. The terrace gardens and sea views are the main attraction; arrive early to avoid tour groups.
