Getting Around

By car or scooter: The best way to explore beyond Corfu Town. The road network is reasonable for a Greek island. The north of the island (Palaiokastritsa, Paleokastritsa, Old Perithia, Kassiopi) is well worth a day's driving. Scooter and car rental is available in Corfu Town and the main resort areas. Petrol stations are plentiful.

By bus (KTEL): Green KTEL buses run from the bus terminal on Avramiou Street (near the New Port) to destinations around the island. Frequency varies — some routes have only two or three buses a day. Useful for day trips to Palaiokastritsa, Kassiopi, and Kavos if you are not renting a vehicle.

In Corfu Town: The old town is walkable. Local (blue) buses run between the new port, the town, and Kanoni. Taxis are available from the rank on the Esplanade and outside the major hotels.

By ferry to Paxos: Ferries run daily from the new port to Paxos in summer (about 2 hours by regular ferry, 1 hour by hydrofoil). Book in advance in July and August.

The airport is 3 km south of the centre; a taxi takes about 10 minutes.
