The Byzantine and Venetian fortress on the eastern promontory of Corfu Town, first built in the 6th century and substantially rebuilt by the Venetians after 1401. The fortifications are separated from the town by an artificial canal cut by the Venetians. From the summit there are panoramic views over the town and the Albanian coast. The British added a garrison church in Doric style inside the walls. A sound and light show runs in summer.
