Corfu Town's best sights are close together, but they are not all the same kind of stop. The fortresses give the scale of the old defensive city; the Campiello gives the texture of daily life; the Liston and Esplanade explain the French and British layers; and Saint Spyridon shows how strongly the island still gathers around its patron saint. Leave time to walk without a route, because the old town is at its best when you stop treating it like a map.
