Ancient Agora of Corinth

Roman forum ruins with 6th-century BC Temple of Apollo columns

The ruins of the Roman forum spread across a wide plateau below Acrocorinth. Seven monolithic Doric columns from the 6th-century BC Temple of Apollo are the most striking survivors, pre-dating the Roman city and giving a sense of how ancient the settlement is. The agora itself — the open marketplace — was rebuilt by the Romans after they sacked the Greek city in 146 BC, and the long row of shops and the bema (speaking platform) where St Paul was tried are clearly legible. It is one of the better-preserved Roman public spaces in Greece.
