Nekromanteion is one of Epirus's most unusual ancient sites, traditionally associated with rituals for communicating with the dead. The surviving stone chambers and underground atmosphere give it a darker, more concentrated mood than many open-air Greek ruins.
It is best visited with some background reading, because the site is compact and its power depends on understanding the mythic landscape around the Acheron. Pair it with the river area or other western Epirus stops to make the day trip feel coherent.
