Lazareto Islet

Lazareto is the tiny islet that sits in the middle of Vathy harbour, with a single white-walled chapel — the church of Soter — and a few cypresses. The name suggests an earlier use as a quarantine station, and a small Venetian-era fort once stood here as well.

You cannot easily land on the islet, but it is one of the most photographed views in the Ionian. Walk out along the headland north or south of Vathy at sunset for the classic composition. Local boatmen occasionally take visitors across for a wedding or a feast day.
