Stavros is the main village in the north of Ithaca, set on a small saddle of land between Polis Bay and Frikes. It is a working settlement rather than a tourist stop — a square, a couple of cafes, a small archaeological museum, and a bronze bust of Odysseus.
The Stavros Archaeological Museum is the more substantial of the island's two museums, holding the finds from the School of Homer site on the nearby hill of Pelikata, which some scholars identify with the palace of Odysseus. The collection is small but well presented, with Mycenaean pottery and tools that make a plausible case for early Bronze Age occupation.
