Kalamata is a manageable city on foot or by bicycle for the central areas. The beach strip, old town, and most attractions are within easy walking distance of each other.
On Foot
The old town around the castle and the main commercial street, Aristomenous, are compact and very walkable. The seafront promenade runs along the entire beach — a pleasant 2-3 km walk from the port area to the far end of the beach.
By Taxi
Taxis are the most convenient way to reach the airport, the port, or destinations outside the centre. They are plentiful and reasonably priced by Western European standards.
By Local Bus
KTEL local buses connect the centre with the suburbs and surrounding villages. For most visitor needs, walking and taxis cover everything adequately.
By Car
A car is very useful for day trips to the Mani peninsula, Mystras, Olympia, and other Peloponnese sites. Car rental is available at the airport and in the city centre.
