Getting There

By air: Mytilene International Airport "Odysseas Elytis" (IATA: MJT) is 7 km south of the city centre. It receives direct flights from Athens year-round (around 50 minutes) and seasonal charter flights from several European cities. A taxi to the city takes about 15 minutes and costs around €15. Local buses also connect the airport to the town.

By ferry: Mytilini is the main port of Lesbos with regular ferry connections to Piraeus (Athens) — the overnight crossing takes around 12 hours and is served by several companies including Hellenic Seaways and Aegean Speed Lines. There are also connections to Chios, Samos, Kavala, and other Aegean islands. The ferry terminal is in the centre of town, right on the south harbour promenade — you step off the boat and you're in the city. In summer, ferries run daily to Piraeus; in winter, frequency reduces to several times a week.

From Turkey: Day trips and short crossings from Ayvalik and Dikili on the Turkish coast are possible in season. The crossing to Ayvalik takes about 90 minutes.
