Gythio's pleasures are modest and walking-paced. The waterfront, the small Roman theatre on the hillside, the island of Kranai with its tower museum, and the long sandy beach at Mavrovouni a few kilometres south make a comfortable two-day stay. The half-submerged shipwreck on Selinitsa beach is the unexpected highlight.
