Mavrikos is the most celebrated restaurant in Lindos and one of the best-regarded tavernas on Rhodes, run by the same family since 1933. It sits on the main square of the village, and the tables spill out onto the pebble mosaic courtyard in the evenings. The menu is rooted in traditional Greek cuisine but executed with more care than most of its neighbours: fresh fish, grilled meats, and classic Dodecanesian dishes made with good local ingredients.
The house specialties include fresh-caught sea bass and red snapper simply grilled, octopus marinated in wine and dried in the sun before grilling, and a rich moussaka that bears little resemblance to the tourist-standard version. Prices are higher than the average Lindos taverna and book well in advance for August evenings — the restaurant's reputation means it fills up. It's open for lunch and dinner from May through October.
