Pefkos Beach

A small resort village 4 kilometres southwest of Lindos, with a sandy beach sheltered by a pine-wooded headland. Pefkos is considerably quieter than Lindos, with a more relaxed atmosphere and less of the cruise-ship tourist pressure. The beach is sandy with good swimming, and the village behind has tavernas, a few bars, and accommodation ranging from family-run pensions to newer boutique hotels.

The walk from Lindos to Pefkos on the coastal path takes about 45 minutes and passes some of the best cliff scenery on the eastern coast of Rhodes. By car it is 10 minutes via the main road. A good option for swimmers who find the main Lindos beach too crowded in summer.

A story
Pefkos takes its name from the Aleppo pines (pefka in Greek) that once covered the headland above the beach. The pine woodland is mostly still intact — unusual in the Dodecanese, where coastal development has stripped most headlands bare — and gives the beach a shaded, fragrant quality that distinguishes it from the more exposed resort beaches to the north.
