Bit Bazaar

Covered flea-market courtyard lined with mezedopoleia and ouzeries

Bit Bazaar is a rambling covered courtyard just off Aristotelous, packed with antique dealers, second-hand stalls and — tucked around its edges — a handful of long-running mezedopoleia that are among the most atmospheric places to eat in the city. The setting is the point: mismatched tables, old junk on the walls, the sound of the market going on around you, a carafe of bulk retsina or tsipouro arriving without being asked.

The food is straightforward — grilled sausages, spetzofai (sausage and pepper stew), tzatziki, grilled fish, taramosalata — honest rather than ambitious. Come for lunch on a weekday when the dealers are out and the place has a working-city energy rather than a touristy one. A full meal with drinks comes to about €12–18 per person. The location, a three-minute walk from the main square, makes it an easy detour between the Roman monuments and the markets.
