Getting There

Thessaloniki Airport (SKG), also called Macedonia Airport, sits on the coast about 15 km southeast of the centre and has good direct flights from most major European cities, often cheaper than flying into Athens. Bus 78 runs into town day and night for the price of an ordinary city ticket; a taxi takes 20–30 minutes. By train, the New Railway Station west of the centre links to Athens (about 4 hours on the fast Intercity service) and to Sofia, Belgrade and Istanbul. Long-distance buses (KTEL) leave from the Macedonia bus station, also west of the centre, for destinations across northern Greece and the Halkidiki peninsula.
