White Tower

Iconic Ottoman tower with panoramic bay views

Address Nikis Avenue, Thessaloniki

The squat 15th-century tower on the seafront is the symbol of the city — what is left of the Ottoman sea walls after most of the rest were knocked down in the 19th century. Climb the spiral ramp inside for a small museum on the city's history and, more usefully, a panoramic view across the bay to Mount Olympus. It is best at the end of the day, when the seafront fills with strollers and the light goes gold over the water.
