Ministry of Finance

The Ministry of Finance occupies a handsome former bank building in central Pest, built between 1909 and 1913 by Ignac Alpar. Its late eclectic Art Nouveau facade is the main reason to pause here: five stories of stone-clad brick, with enough period detail to reward a slow look from the street.

It is not a major sight on the scale of Gresham Palace or the Parliament, but it fits neatly into a walk through Lipotvaros if you are paying attention to Budapest's early 20th-century architecture.
