Igmánd Fort

The southernmost of the three Komarom forts, built in the 1870s on the road south to Igmánd. Smaller than Monostor but more compact and easier to take in at a single visit; the casemates now house the Klapka György Museum's collection of Roman artefacts from Brigetio.

The displays cover Roman gravestones, mosaics, glass, and bronze military fittings, plus a small section on the Hungarian War of Independence in 1849 and the building of the fortification system itself. Allow about an hour. Free or near-free entry.

A story
The collection inside the fort includes Roman tombstones lifted from the local fields, several of them dedicated by legionaries' wives — a reminder that even at the edge of the empire, a fortified base was also a settled community with mothers, children, and quiet retirement plans.
