Szeged is a manageable city on foot. The centre — everything within the two ring boulevards — is compact enough to walk across in twenty minutes, and most of the main sights are within easy walking distance of each other. The Belváros (inner city) is partly pedestrianised, which makes it particularly pleasant in summer.
The city runs trams and trolleybuses on several routes connecting the centre to the outlying districts and the university campus. Tickets are cheap and available from machines at major stops or from the driver. Taxis are plentiful and honest by Central European standards; the main rank is at the railway station. Cycling is practical: the city is flat, has dedicated cycling lanes on several major streets, and there is a municipal bike-share scheme operating from racks near the main squares.
