Kilcrea Friary

Atmospheric Franciscan friary ruins in the countryside west of Cork.

Kilcrea Friary is a ruined Franciscan foundation west of Cork city, set in the kind of green, quiet countryside that makes Irish monastic ruins feel properly atmospheric. Church walls, cloister remains and old graves give the site texture without the crowds of better-known stops.

It is easiest by car and works well as part of a west Cork or Blarney-area loop. Come for mood rather than interpretation: stone, grass, weather and a sense of history left to breathe.
