Shanahan's occupies a fine Georgian townhouse on the north side of St Stephen's Green and is widely regarded as Dublin's best steakhouse. The focus is USDA-certified prime beef, dry-aged and cooked over a wood-fired grill. The cuts are large and the presentation unashamedly old-school: wedge salads, creamed spinach, truffle fries on the side.
The room is sumptuously decorated, with deep colours and oil paintings, and the service is formal in the American tradition. The Oval Office Bar downstairs, with its collection of American presidential memorabilia, makes a good spot for a pre-dinner drink. Expect to pay accordingly for the full experience.
