Richmond Tower is one of the original gateways into the Royal Hospital Kilmainham grounds, a 17th-century baroque tower that once stood on Bow Lane before being moved stone by stone to its current location. It is a rare example of decorative baroque masonry in Dublin — the kind of architectural detail more common in continental Europe than Ireland.
The tower stands near the entrance to the Royal Hospital and IMMA grounds, and makes a good introductory sight before entering the complex.
