Corso Marrucino is the spine of upper Chieti, a narrow pedestrianised street that runs from the cathedral square through the old centre. The palazzi along it date mostly from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries; some house antique shops, others have been carved up into restaurants and small bars.
The corso is busiest in the early evening, when the whole town comes out for the passeggiata. The Teatro Marrucino, an elegant nineteenth-century opera house with a frescoed ceiling, sits about halfway along — pop into the foyer if the doors are open. At the far end, the corso opens onto a small belvedere with sweeping views over the Pescara valley.
