The Giardino dei Semplici, also called the Orto Botanico dell'Università D'Annunzio, is a modest botanical garden run by the local university on the northern edge of Chieti. It is laid out in the classic "garden of simples" style, with beds of medicinal and useful plants alongside a small arboretum.
It is not on the scale of the great Italian botanical gardens, but for a quiet hour away from the corso it is pleasant — particularly in spring when the herb beds are at their most fragrant. Opening hours are limited and largely follow the university calendar.
