Museo Correale di Terranova

Neapolitan decorative arts in a villa with bay views

Address Via Correale 50, Sorrento

A small but rewarding museum housed in an 18th-century villa on the eastern edge of town. The collection focuses on Neapolitan decorative arts — majolica, coral carvings, intarsia wood inlay (a Sorrentine specialty), clocks, and porcelain — alongside a decent selection of paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. The archaeological section has Greek and Roman finds from the Sorrentine Peninsula.

The real highlight may be the garden terrace, which overlooks the Bay of Naples toward Vesuvius. It is one of the quieter spots in town and a good reason to visit even if museums aren't usually your thing. Open Wednesday through Monday, closed Tuesday.
