Sorrento's position makes it the best base in Campania. Pompeii and Herculaneum are both on the Circumvesuviana line — Pompeii is 35 minutes, Herculaneum 45 minutes from Sorrento station. Capri is a 20-minute hydrofoil ride from Marina Piccola. The Amalfi Coast — Positano, Amalfi, Ravello — is accessible by SITA bus along one of the most dramatic roads in Europe. Allow a full day for any of these; the Amalfi Coast road is slow in summer.
