Things to Do

Sorrento's main pleasures are its position — above the sea, close to everything — and its old town. The sights are modest by Italian standards, but the place is genuinely pleasant to wander. Piazza Tasso is the hub; from there, the Cathedral, the Chiostro di San Francesco, and the Vallone dei Mulini viewpoint are all within a ten-minute walk. The Museo Correale is worth an hour for the intarsia woodwork and the terrace views. The Bagni della Regina Giovanna — a natural sea pool in Roman ruins — is the best swimming option near town, a 20-minute walk west along Via del Capo. Marina Grande, the old fishing quarter below the cliffs, is worth the descent for lunch or an evening meal.
