The historic centre of Reggio Emilia is compact and entirely walkable. Most of the major sights, churches, and restaurants are within fifteen minutes of Piazza del Duomo on foot. The main station is about a ten-minute walk from the centre.
The Collezione Maramotti is about 3 kilometres west of the centre and is best reached by taxi or bicycle. The Ponti di Calatrava and Mediopadana station are about 5 kilometres north and served by bus from the city centre. Taxis are available at the main station and can be booked by phone. The flat terrain around the city makes cycling a reasonable option for getting between sights outside the immediate centre.
