The medieval upper town — Monte Orlando — is where the history concentrates: the castle, the cathedral, the Byzantine churches, and the dramatic rock cleft of the Montagna Spaccata. Below, the seafront and the beach at Serapo offer a completely different pace. Allow at least two full days to do the place justice.
