Mercato dell'Antiquariato

Chiavari's antiques market runs on the second weekend of each month and fills the arcaded streets of the old town with around 200 dealers selling everything from Ligurian maritime instruments and nineteenth-century furniture to vintage prints, ceramics, and silver. It is one of the best antiques markets in Liguria and draws collectors from across northern Italy.

Quality is generally high, and the setting — the arcades of the Caruggio Dritto and the surrounding piazze — is ideal. Come early for the best pieces; by midday the dealers are starting to pack up. The market operates rain or shine, which the arcades facilitate. It is worth timing a visit to Chiavari around it.

A story
The antiques market was established in 1967 and has grown into one of the most important in northern Italy. Dealers drive from as far as Tuscany and Piedmont to buy and sell here, which is a reliable indicator of quality. The second Sunday of each month is the main event, though a smaller version runs on the second Saturday as well.
