The Portici Neri (Black Arcades) on the Fenice square date from the thirteenth century and are among the oldest surviving architectural structures in Chiavari. The dark stone columns give the arcade its name and its slightly austere character — a medieval remnant embedded in the otherwise Baroque streetscape.
