Guvano is the wide pebble cove at the foot of the cliffs north of Corniglia, half-hidden by the headland that separates the village from Vernazza. From above it looks like a clean crescent of grey shingle backed by terraces, but the access has been complicated for years. The old railway tunnel that used to deliver visitors from the station has been shut, and the steep mule path that descends from the vineyards is often closed by landslides.
When it is reachable, the beach repays the effort: there is rarely anyone there, the water is deep and clear, and the view back up to the Corniglia promontory is one of the most photographed in the Cinque Terre. Check locally before you set off — if the path is closed, Guvano is best admired from the trail above.
