The belvedere at the western end of the village is the best viewpoint in Corniglia and one of the finest in the Cinque Terre. From here you look north to Vernazza, its harbour tucked between two cliffs, and south past Manarola to Riomaggiore. On clear days the coast stretches as far as the Gulf of La Spezia. This is where people come for the famous Cinque Terre sunsets.
The terrace is just a few minutes' walk from the main square along Via Fieschi, the village's main lane. There are benches, and in the evening local families tend to claim them. A small shrine to the Madonna stands here, which gives the spot its formal name. Come before the tour groups arrive or after they've gone, and you'll have it largely to yourself.
