Pigna

Hilltop Ligurian village in the Nervia Valley, known for thermal springs and stone lanes.

Pigna is a small hilltop village high in the Nervia Valley, inland from Ventimiglia in the far west of Liguria. Together with neighbouring Castelvittorio, it sits on a narrow, winding road that climbs through terraced hillsides above Dolceacqua.

The village is half-crumbling and half-charming — stone houses clinging to a steep slope, with good views and excellent walking trails in the surrounding hills. Pigna is also known for its thermal springs (the Terme di Pigna), tucked into the valley below the village. The drive up is memorable, though not for the faint-hearted. Come for the scenery, the quiet, and a sense of Ligurian mountain life far from the coast.

Things to Do

Pigna rewards slow exploration. The medieval centre, the thermal baths in the valley below, and the walking trails through the surrounding hills are the three reasons to come. Allow a full day: morning in the village, afternoon at the terme, and an evening meal before the drive back down.
