Isola del Cantone takes its name from a strategic position in the valley where the Scrivia bends — the "island" is the land enclosed by the river. The village retains traces of its medieval past: a ruined castle on the hill above, and an old bridge crossing the river below. It's a quiet place, best visited as part of a drive up the valley rather than as a destination in itself.
