Museo del Ciclismo, Novi Ligure

Novi Ligure, at the northern end of the valley where the Scrivia emerges onto the Po Plain, was the birthplace of two of cycling's greatest champions: Costante Girardengo, who dominated Italian racing in the 1910s and 20s, and Fausto Coppi, the campionissimo who won the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia multiple times and became the most celebrated Italian athlete of the 20th century.

The Museo del Ciclismo "Girardengo–Coppi" gathers their jerseys, bicycles, trophies, and photographs in a space that is both sports archive and local shrine. If you have any interest in cycling history — or in the particular Italian relationship between sport and national identity — this is worth the trip to Novi.
