This small neoclassical temple on the lakefront was built in 1927 to honour Alessandro Volta, who was born in Como in 1745 and invented the first chemical battery here. Inside are the original instruments Volta used in his experiments — Leyden jars, electrophori, and the famous volta pile — alongside personal letters and medals. It is a quietly extraordinary place: the tools that changed the world laid out in a rotunda on a lake.
