The most rewarding day trip from Termoli is the Tremiti Islands — a small archipelago about 20 km offshore with clear water, sea caves, and a Benedictine abbey on San Nicola. Ferries run from the port in summer and the crossing takes around an hour. The water around the islands is some of the cleanest in the Adriatic and the islands are part of the Gargano National Park.
Inland, Larino (around 30 km south-west) has a Roman amphitheatre that seated 12,000 and a small but pleasant medieval centre. The hill town of Campobasso, regional capital of Molise, is about an hour by car or train.
