Bombarde is the best beach within easy reach of Alghero — a long crescent of fine white sand backed by maritime pine and macchia, with water that stays shallow and a glowing turquoise for a long way out. The setting is more dramatic than the in-town beaches because the cliffs of Capo Caccia close the view to the west. The locals prefer it, which is a good signal.
The beach is about fifteen kilometres north-west of Alghero, off the SP55 road. Parking in summer is paid and limited; buses from Alghero run several times a day to a stop on the main road, about a ten-minute walk down to the sand. Pine trees provide natural shade in places; loungers and a kiosk are available. The neighbouring Spiaggia del Lazzaretto is quieter and equally good.
