Capo Caccia

Limestone headland with cliffs, hiking trails, and the lighthouse

Address Capo Caccia, 07041 Alghero

Capo Caccia is the dramatic limestone headland that closes the bay of Alghero on its western side — twenty-four kilometres of cliffs that fall vertically two hundred metres into the sea. The lighthouse at the cape is one of the highest in the Mediterranean. The whole headland is part of the Porto Conte regional park, with trails through maritime pine, juniper, and the typical Sardinian macchia.

The most popular trail is a 90-minute loop around the cliffs, with viewpoints over the Maddalenetta island and the entrance to Neptune's Grotto far below. The drive from Alghero is straightforward (about 30 minutes); buses leave the city for the cape several times a day in summer. Capo Caccia is also the nesting ground for one of the largest griffon vulture colonies in the western Mediterranean.
