Alghero's main draws cluster in two places: the walled old town with its cathedral, churches, and bastioni walk, and the natural attractions of Capo Caccia — the limestone headland that closes the bay to the west. Neptune's Grotto, the four-kilometre sea cave at the foot of the cape, is the standout single excursion.
Beyond the obvious sights, the surrounding coast supports diving and snorkelling in a marine protected area, walking trails along the cliffs at Capo Caccia, and several long stretches of fine-sand beach reachable in fifteen minutes by car or local bus. The historic red-coral harvesting in these waters is reflected in the jewellery shops of the old town.
