Beaches

Sicily has over 1,000 kilometres of coastline and some of the best beaches in the Mediterranean. The north coast tends toward pebbly coves and dramatic cliffs, while the south and southeast have long stretches of fine sand and turquoise water.

San Vito Lo Capo in the northwest is often called Sicily's best beach, a wide arc of white sand with clear shallow water. On the south coast, the beaches near Ragusa and Noto are less crowded and equally stunning. The Aeolian and Pelagian islands offer something wilder, with volcanic black-sand beaches and crystal-clear swimming.
