Getting There

Catania-Fontanarossa airport (CTA) is Sicily's busiest, with direct flights from across Europe including many low-cost routes. A taxi to the city centre costs around €25; the AMT Alibus is much cheaper and stops at the train station and several central points.

By train, Catania is linked to Siracusa to the south and to Messina to the north, with connections toward the mainland via ferry from Messina. The Circumetnea, a narrow-gauge railway, loops around the base of Etna and is as much a scenic excursion as a transport option.
