Shopping

Via Etnea is the main shopping street, running three kilometres north from Piazza del Duomo and combining international chains with the older Catanese family shops. The fashion stretches are concentrated between the cathedral and Piazza Stesicoro.

For markets and food, the Pescheria runs every morning except Sunday, and the Fera o Luni in Piazza Carlo Alberto runs every day except Sunday for clothes and household goods. The Sicilian ceramics chain Maioliche d'Arte has its largest outlet on Via Pacini, and the artisan workshops of Via dei Crociferi sell silver, lava-stone jewellery, and devotional objects.

For Sicilian food to take home — pistachios from Bronte, honey from the Iblei hills, almond paste, salted ricotta — the Pescheria has the best prices but Prestipino on Via Etnea is the obvious stop with English-language packaging.
