San Giuliano

San Giuliano is the most distinctive baroque church on Via dei Crociferi, with a concave facade and a convex set of steps that curve out into the street. The architect was Giovanni Vaccarini, working at the top of his game in the 1740s. The church served the attached convent of San Giuliano, one of Catania's wealthiest.

The interior is small but unusually rich, with frescoed ceilings and a fine eighteenth-century floor of polychrome marble. The church is not always open; check the schedule posted at the door.
