The Teatro Sangiorgi is an early-twentieth-century theatre on Via Antonino di Sangiuliano, a few blocks north of the cathedral. It opened in 1900 as one of the most modern theatres in Sicily, combining live theatre with the new technology of cinema, and the Liberty (Italian Art Nouveau) interior is largely intact.
After decades of neglect it was restored and reopened in the 2000s as a small recital and chamber-opera venue. The auditorium is small, the acoustic good, and the programme worth checking.
