Canneto is a small village a few kilometres north of Lipari town, reached by a 15-minute bus ride along the coast road. The main reason to come is the beach: a long curve of grey pebble that catches the afternoon sun and gives easy access to clear blue water with sea-bed visibility unusual for the Mediterranean.
A handful of cheap trattorias along the seafront serve fresh fish at lunchtime; cucina aeoliana ingredients (capers, salted ricotta, swordfish) are the local way. From Canneto's small port a daily summer boat continues north to the pumice quarry beach at Spiaggia Bianca.
