Quattropani Hot Springs and Cliffs

Quattropani is a small hamlet on the north-west of the island, reached by the panoramic road that loops around Lipari. The interest is partly the dramatic cliff scenery — exposed kaolin clay quarries that flash white and orange — and partly the small church of the Madonna della Catena perched on a rise above the water.

A walking trail descends from the church to the old kaolin quarries, where small sulphurous hot springs trickle into rock pools at the water's edge. The pools are too small for proper soaking, but the colours — yellow sulphur, white kaolin, blue sea — make this one of the prettier stretches of coast on Lipari.
